Eversheds comment: Food prices drop is welcome news
- United Kingdom
11-01-2013
On the news that global food prices have dropped 7%, Parmjit Singh, partner and head of food and drink sector at global law firm Eversheds comments:
"For many months the feeling was that commodity inflation would not go away. Therefore, it must be pleasing for everyone involved in the food and drink industry - from manufacturers, retailers and consumers - to see the 7% drop in the FAO Food Index. Although it will take some time for these figures to feed into the system, at least it is a positive start to 2013.
"If we can avoid the severe weather problems that we saw in 2012, hopefully we can see a continued drop in commodity inflation which would be very welcome when so many households are facing daily pressures on household spend."
