Eversheds comment: Gibraltar probe a timely reminder of existing tax planning rules
- United Kingdom
16-10-2013
Commenting after the EU launched a probe into Gibraltar's corporate tax regime, Ben Jones, tax expert at global law firm Eversheds, says:
"For countries within the EU, State Aid rules provide an additional restriction on the introduction of domestic tax rules that may increase the tax competitiveness of a country. Gibraltar itself has had its tax system challenged through this system a number a times. Although seemingly not specifically connected to the wider international movement to tackle international corporate tax planning, this probe serves as a timely reminder of the powers currently available to tackle potentially abusive planning."
