Eversheds comment: India visa bond could harm special relationship
- United Kingdom
25-06-2013
Commenting on a potential visa bond that may apply to Indian businesses and students visiting the UK, Parmjit Singh, India trade expert at global law firm Eversheds says:
"The British Government has long championed the special relationship between the UK and India so the introduction of a visa bond seems counterintuitive. Indian visitors will react with dismay at the proposal and see it has further evidence of how difficult it is to do business with the UK. The timing of the announcement is also problematic with a large delegation from the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry currently visiting the UK led by Anand Sharma, Minister of Commerce and Industry for the Government of India. We will watch closely how they react to this announcement and indeed how plans for the initiative evolve over the months ahead."
