Eversheds comment: Latest India export figures give further encouragement to UK plc

    Commenting on news that exports to India have increased by 20% following UK trade delegations to the continent, Parmjit Singh, India trade expert at global law firm Eversheds, says:

    "David Cameron will have been particularly pleased by these latest figures, given his first overseas visit following his appointment was to India. He had initially identified low levels of export to the continent by UK businesses and saw tackling the issue as priority for UKTI and all supporting organisations like UKIBC.

    "The attendance of senior Government Ministers on corporate delegations to India with visits to major cities outside of Delhi and Mumbai (on this trip the delegation are visiting Coimbatore, Chennai and Bangalore) and the opening of a Business Centre by UKIBC in Delhi with the support of the substantial UKTI teams on the ground in India, have all contributed to giving UK businesses the confidence to start or substantially increase exports to India. These latest figures are very helpful since they will demonstrate to the Government that it was right to target India for export growth and positively encourage UK businesses that are thinking about exporting to India."
