Eversheds comment: Latest food price numbers indicative of competitive nature of UK retailing
- United Kingdom
04-06-2014
Commenting on the latest UK food price inflation numbers, Parmjit Singh, head of the food and drink group at Eversheds law firm, says:
"The news from the BRC that annual food price inflation held steady will be good news for many consumers who are still managing tight household budgets. It also reflects the competitive nature of retailing currently where the major retailers are fighting for market share.
"The group that will be concerned by all of this going forward will be the manufacturing companies supplying many of these products as their margins will continue to be squeezed. This in turn will hit their profits and growth, and ability to invest in NPD."
