Eversheds comment: Suntory well placed to satisfy demand for whisky and bourbon in emerging markets following Jim Beam buyout
- United Kingdom
01-05-2014
Commenting on news that Suntory has acquired Jim Beam, Parmjit Singh, head of the food and drink group at global law firm Eversheds, says:
"Suntory's completion of the buyout of Jim Beam is another purchase by a Japanese company of a major global brand. We have seen a number of these over the last 24 months and will see more in the future. Japanese companies appreciate that the opportunities for growth in Japan are limited and buying strong global brands like Jim Bean give them an opportunity to expand outside of Japan, benefit from economies of scale and diversify their portfolio. The appetite from consumers for strong whisky and bourbon brands especially in emerging countries around the world will continue to increase and Suntory by moving into the 3rd position in high end spirit makers is well positioned to serve those increased consumer demands around the world."
