Commenting on the news that India has overtaken China to become the world’s fastest growing large economy Parm Singh, Head of India Business Group at law firm Eversheds, says:
“News that the Indian economy has grown by 7.3% in the last quarter will be welcomed by both Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Cameron. Modi’s economic policies have been under the spotlight for the last 18 months and many have criticised him for delivering too little and not making enough progress.
“PM Modi has made a big play of the “Make In India” policy and the easing of restrictions of doing business in India. These latest figures will encourage his Government about their policies and to increase the foot on the accelerator. Likewise PM Cameron and organisations such as the UK India Business Council have been promoting India as a destination for UK companies especially in setting up manufacturing centres to sell into India and the wider Asia market.
“These figures highlight the fact that UK manufacturers cannot ignore India and the potential benefits it offers for both manufacturing and then selling those products.”
