Doug is a Principal Associate in our Corporate group specialising in Restructuring work, both corporate and personal, and contentious and non-contentious. He is experienced in all forms of insolvency procedures.

The Restructuring team, of which Doug is a member, occupies Tier 1 status in both Legal directories for Restructuring and Insolvency work and is recognised as "a Restructuring Powerhouse" (Legal 500). Doug has been recommended by the Legal 500 as being “highly respected in the market”. He has restructuring and insolvency experience across a wide range of sectors, including telecommunications, IT, energy, education, construction, agriculture, pensions, and sport. Many of the matters he has worked on have cross-border elements. Doug has experience of acting for:

• insolvency practitioners on corporate insolvency cases, primarily administrations and liquidations;

• Trustees in Bankruptcy on personal insolvency cases, often involving the realisation of assets situated overseas;

• purchasers on the acquisition of the business and assets of a company through an administration process (whether pre-packaged or otherwise);

• a pension fund on the proposed company voluntary arrangement, and subsequent administration, of one of the fund members;

• a major bank and LPA Receivers in contentious receivership proceedings over a portfolio of properties including a marina and a hotel; and

• company directors in relation to their duties when trading in periods of financial difficulty.

Doug has also acted for a variety of clients in submitting responses to Government consultations on legislation impacting the insolvency regime in the financial services, pensions, and education sectors.

Doug graduated from the University of Cambridge with a first-class degree in Law, and also spent a year studying abroad at the Université de Poitiers, France.
